Two foreign corals world-renowned, will close this weekend, the International Coral Polanco Cycle organized by the Municipality of the town and sponsored by the Obra Social de Caja Madrid with the collaboration of Solvay Chemicals, El Diario Montanes and Coral Ensemble. Programming, tall, had a budget of 22,000 euros, which was similar to last year. The poster, in its nineteenth edition, started on October 16, with performances of Coro Lirico de Cantabria.

Camber Choir Clusters Sydney, Australia and Norwegian Chamber Singers, of Norway, will be responsible for putting the ‘finishing touch’ to this important program, coordinated from the Department of Culture, the head of which is Ana Belen Diaz Pereda. Speaking to this newspaper, the councilor has meant the high turnout and the good reception given to the cycle, with the assistance of the public throughout the county and region. The influx has been such that the temple of the parish church of San Pedro Advincula Polanco has remained small.

For this weekend, the choice of the organizers towards the close of the cycle could not be better. The Sydney Choir delighted the audience with a special concert Friday morning, offering a repertoire of works by Guerrero, Lobo, Victoria, Javier Bello Portu, Stanhope, Butterley and Edwards. In the second part shall be construed Sculthorpe issues, Busto, Mocoroa, Grainger, Gyger and Leek.

This set is composed of twelve women and twelve men, and directed by Paul Stanhpoe. In concert includes polyphonic music of the sixteenth century, and also existing Australian works, his style being described by connoisseurs as “fresh and beautiful.” It was formed in 1975 and quickly became one of the most renowned choirs interpreters of Renaissance music in his country, especially as regards the repertoire of Joaquin des Prez.

Classical and Traditional

On Saturday, October 31st. will close the cycle with the performance of the Norwegian Chamber Choir Singers, Norway. Here are fifteen women and as many men who will introduce the audience to his concert in a program that in its first part is devoted to sacred music, with works by, among other masters, Victoria, Grieg, Mendelssohn and Hovland. The second part will feature Norwegian folk music. This group, directed by Jon Fyllingen, was formed in 1994. Looking beautiful and distinctive sound of music ‘a capella’, and strive to work different musical ideas for different types of music. Both concerts start at eight o’clock.

This year the program have participated in choirs Lyric Cantabria, Navarre Federation of Choirs, The Cagigas, Solvay Ensemble, San Julian and Santa Maria de Solvay, the cycle is, of course, one of the most important cultural activities of all those which are organized and held annually in Polanco.

The town, according to its mayor has meaning, Julio Cabrero, becomes, for that reason, “the epicenter of choral singing” of Cantabria. It’s a cycle that has become irreplaceable in the region and attracts an audience from a region with many amateur choral singing.
