The Government of Cantabria has authorized an agreement with the Spanish Institute of Oceanography for conducting a feasibility study for the cultivation of anchovy supplies destined for the canning industry and for use as live bait which is funded with 176,350 Euros.


The Government of Cantabria has authorized an agreement with the Spanish Institute of Oceanography for conducting a feasibility study for the cultivation of anchovy supplies destined for the canning industry and for use as live bait which is funded with 176,350 Euros.
As explained to the Executive, the objective of this project is to have a technique to obtain copies of anchovy in size and quality suitable for use in the canning industry and as a substitute for live bait wild fisheries for other species, mainly tuna.

This work will be conducted by the Institute of Oceanography in Santander aquaculture center in three phases and completed in 2011 including the capture of breeding, captive breeding and obtaining biological data for further dissemination.
