costa11On the coast, the pilgrim enters the Cantabria collado the Hague Ontón. The route deviates by Baltezana and Alto de Helguera, avoiding Saltacaballos up to NATO, and Santullán Sámano before entering Castro Urdiales. Along this stretch there were several hospitals in some of which are preserved venerable ruins. Castro in the pilgrim has to pay to stage the Gothic church of Santa Maria and visit the Hermitage of Santa Ana


The road follows the coast closely followed across Campijo, Allendelagua, Cerdigo and Islares until Oriñón estuary, which is crossed today by Pontarrón of Guriezo to climb Mount Candino between Gedo and Fermedal down to the valley Liendo . The route continues to Seña Villaviad and Laredo, with its Gothic church of Our Lady of Bethlehem, preceded by huge and cozy porch.

costa21Colindres arrived by boat at once Treto, today placed the iron bridge of the same name. Cross the river, the road runs by Adal, Cicero, and Escalante Bárcena up in Santa Maria del Puerto Santoña. It preserves the memory of hospitals for pilgrims in Laredo, Colindres Treto, Escalante, argon and Santoña. There are two options: continue along the coast, by Noja, Garlic, the Romanesque church of Santa Maria Bareyo, and Galizano Somo, Santander from which to embark or continue on the inside, across from the old Merindad Trasmiera by Beranga, Anera Agüero and Pedreña up, where you can take a passenger boat. There were hospitals in Noja, Meruelo, Güemes, Galizano, Castenedo and ferns, and numerous churches dedicated to St. James.

Many passengers did not dare to cross the vast Bay of Santander by boat, taking a long detour through Santiago de Heras, Villaescusa and valley before reaching Santander Camargo.

In Santander the pilgrim has to step in fulfilling the sober and beautiful Gothic cathedral, old church of San Emeterio, with its two superimposed churches and large cloister.

52The road continues along Peñacastillo, Santa Cruz de Boo and Bezana of Pielagos, where being crossed by the river Pas Mogro in the boat, but today it must reach Puente Arce. Miengo Cuchí past and was crossing the estuary of the Saint Martin’s boat with Arena Cudón and now the bridge Barreda, to Santillana del Mar, performing at the collegiate stage of Santa Juliana.
